Xbox Game Pass Crossplay: What You Can Play With PC and Console Friends

Game Pass doesn't mean crossplay

You and your friend both have Game Pass. You're on PC, they're on Xbox. You download the same game, try to party up, and nothing happens. Different servers. No crossplay.

This is one of the most common frustrations with Game Pass. The subscription gives you access to hundreds of games on both PC and Xbox, but it doesn't guarantee the two can play together.

Why it's confusing

Game Pass comes in different tiers: PC Game Pass, Xbox Game Pass, and Game Pass Ultimate (which includes both). When a game is "on Game Pass," it might be on PC only, Xbox only, or both. And even when it's on both, crossplay between PC and Xbox isn't automatic.

Some games have separate PC and Xbox versions that don't connect. Others have crossplay but only through the Xbox/Microsoft Store version on PC, not the Steam version. A few require specific account linking before cross-platform parties work.

There's no label in the Game Pass app that tells you "this game has crossplay between PC and Xbox." You have to check each game individually.

How to check

Before downloading, look up the game on our PC and Xbox crossplay page. We track crossplay status per platform pair, so you can see whether the specific combo you need actually works.

For other platform combos with Game Pass games:

• PC + PS5 crossplay (for games that are on both Game Pass and PlayStation)
• Xbox + Switch crossplay

The smart approach for Game Pass groups

If your group all has Game Pass, you've got a huge library to choose from. The problem is finding the overlap between what's available AND what supports crossplay between your platforms AND what everyone wants to play.

Set up a board on PickThe.Games and mark everyone's platforms. Filter for free games (Game Pass games are effectively free for subscribers). The matching algorithm will surface games that work for your specific group.

Game Pass gems you might have missed

The popular Game Pass titles get all the coverage. But there are smaller multiplayer games in the library that fly under the radar. Games with 10-player co-op, games with full crossplay, games that just got added and nobody's talked about yet.

The swiping system helps with discovery. Instead of scrolling through the Game Pass app (which is terrible for finding multiplayer games), swipe through a curated feed that already knows your group's platforms.

Keep checking back

Games rotate in and out of Game Pass monthly. A game that wasn't there last month might be there now. And games sometimes add crossplay support in patches months after launch. Our database updates regularly to catch these changes.
